Health classes explained

Preferred Plus, Preferred, Standard Plus and Standard: what each means and what changes your tier.

Carriers set term prices by rate class. Names shift between companies, but the tiers stay similar: Preferred Plus (Super Preferred or Preferred Best), Preferred, Standard Plus and Standard, then table adjustments for extra risk. Tobacco users sit in their own elevated tier.

What underwriters look at

Body build, BP and lipids, family heart or cancer history before age 60, driving, Rx history, work and recreation, and tobacco or nicotine use. Top class needs nearly all clean; Preferred permits a bit more; Standard Plus and Standard include managed conditions like treated high BP.

How to use the quote tool

The health question is self-reported: Excellent goes to Preferred Plus, Very good to Preferred, Good to Standard Plus and Average to Standard. Quotes use that class; carriers confirm the real one after underwriting. When unsure, get quotes at two levels and let the app determine. Inflating your class doesn't change the final price—just the estimate's accuracy.

Susman Insurance Agency helps compare carriers with kinder rules for specific conditions—often more valuable than the initial quote.
